Several hours of flights, connections and car rentals later the small group had finally reached the location of the citadel. Though Anshel was no longer with them, he hoped his friend could find some sort of respite with his demonic brethren. He had been looking rather haggard lately, and the last thing he wanted was someone important to him denying who and what they were just to keep up an image of something that meant as much to them as flight to an ant. He got gingerly out of the driver's seat of their car, much nicer than the one they'd procured in South America, and looked at the hulking ruin of the western spire of the Moroi center of power. It hadn't been long since the destruction, and it looked like the recovery was still long in coming. In fact, some places were still smoking, and thanks to his sense of smell...he could still catch the faint whiff of dead bodies from beneath the rubble. God what a mess. He looked behind him to the others, in particular Christopher who, while still a boy, had taken on the countenance of a man twice his age. This girl must have meant a lot to him. His maid, Paranelle, didn't look much better off either. "Where should we start?"

"Damn..." Melora whispered, taking in the destruction around them. It hadn't been long since this place had been destroyed, taking with it the lives of the people inside. She sincerely hoped that Christopher's girl hadn't played a part in this event, though the chances of that being the case weren't looking particularly good. "I guess we'll just start by looking for clues and asking around about witnesses to see what we can find out.

Azura paused and waited for Melora to catch up with him. "That's right, you weren't here when the spire collapsed. It was just as we were leaving to find you." He gestured with a jerk of his chin toward the rubble. "It's bad news for the Moroi. I would take them on, but we just don't have the room back at the Castle."

She stepped up beside him, looking over the remains of the spire. "I'm guessing that is what gave Chris the idea to follow you? Azura, you didn't happen to see my father around here or sense a Blackraven at the time you were here, did you?" Melora pushed hair back from her eyes, the tell tale sign that she was deep in thought, considering all possible scenarios in her mind, and thinking of a way to make good with the Moroi if her father did happen to be the person behind the attack. She felt responsible for the actions her father had taken, and would make it her personal mission to right everything he'd done to tear down the peace between the clans.

"That's the problem. No one sensed anything. Anshel and I were actually under suspicion for a short while afterward." He looked over at her, eyes critical as he assessed her. "It's not your fault. You arent the parent in this situation."

"If I'd have been able to kill him before then he wouldn't have been able to do this." She gripped her wrist with her other hand. "It's odd that no one sensed anything. It makes me think...." She stopped, sensitive towards Chris' situation. It makes me think this was an inside job, she continued in her mind, wishing Azura could hear her. Though he'd probably already considered the same.

"Maybe it was," he responded aloud, moving along. He seemed to seriously consider that for a moment, and a light dawned in his eyes that had him looking back at Chris. Maybe it really was an inside job. Perhaps someone thought this was an opportune moment to overthrow the young king with all the commotion between the clans. No one would notice a young boy...

"Wait wait wait wait. Did you just respond to what I thought?" She stopped and tilted her head at Azura, puzzled by his response. Had he really just responded to her thought, or did she just miss a part of the conversation while thinking? She glanced at Chris, who had been silent this entire time.

He looked back at her and blinked at her stupid question. Retard. "Of course I did. We were having a conversation, after all..."

"No, no we weren't. I thought that. In my head." Melora was completely dumbfounded. Did he honestly think she'd said it aloud, or did he simply fail to note that telepathy comes with the vampiric package?

"Bullshit," he said, now fully turning to face her. With a hand on his hip he sighed and opted to at least give her the benefit of the doubt. She shouldn't have been going crazy yet anyway. "See if you can do it again."

Right, bullshit. She thought, willing him to hear it. Had she been going insane? She sure as hell hoped not. On top of that, telepathy with Azura would be a mixed blessing. Helpful in battle, but how far could she be from him before it stopped working? Would he only hear what he wanted her to hear, or would her every thought of attraction to him be entirely out in the open? Melora raised and hand to her hip and stared into his eyes, waiting for his reply. Christ, try it out on me. I wonder if you can answer me.

Christopher cleared his throat, and slid out of the car, forcing the tears at the ruin before him away. It had been magnificent, and now reduced to rubble… His child hood residence… His eyes slowly turned glazed, and it took a gentle shake from the maid to get him to snap out of the depressive, trance-like state. “We need to go to some of my Guards, and perhaps a few maids.” His voice came out whispery, like leaves rustle together on an autumn tree, listless even.
“Good idea.” Perenelle tried to sound cheerful, to provoke life. Nothing, save eyes skimming over more rubble and a step foreward. A tiny frown ceased her lips, and she followed with slumped shoulders.

Both of his eyebrows rose when he heard her, but hadn't seen her lips move. No, he supposed she wasn't going nuts. Hearing her silent command, he attempted the reverse with a snide and rather distasteful remark about the conservative nature of her clothing. Only when she looked like she wanted to slap him did he know she'd heard him. Well, heard in the sense of telepathic communication. "That's a freaky side effect."

Melora tugged at her clothes, annoyed with his mental not that she ought to dress a little more skanky. "Opinion duly noted. So....I guess we can test the boundaries on this trip. I wonder if we can do anything else." With that, she turned to Chris. "I suppose you should lead the way, this is your domain."
